FAQ
Why are my iPhone photos in HEIC format?
Since iOS 11, iPhones shoot in HEIC (High Efficiency Image Format) by default. It's about half the size of JPG at the same quality, but Windows, Android and many websites don't support it natively - so files often won't open or upload.
How do I stop my iPhone from shooting HEIC?
Settings → Camera → Formats → choose "Most Compatible". New photos will be JPG. The trade-off: they'll take up more space.
Does converting hurt quality?
JPG output uses a high quality setting (0.92) - no visible difference. PNG output is fully lossless but much larger.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding and conversion run entirely in your browser. Your photos never pass through a server - which matters for personal pictures.
